Eighth Annual Photographers' Retreat

Eighth Annual Photographers' Retreat

April 28 – 30, 2017 Peters Valley Craft Center, Layton NJ All Photographers Welcome! No registration fee to attend the retreat. Participants are responsible for transportation, food and lodging. Register

We are excited to be returning to Peters Valley for the 8th annual Photographers’ Retreat. Peters Valley is located in the heart of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (www.nps.gov/dewa) and offers abundant subject material for participants wishing to photograph. We will also have access to photograph the buildings and grounds of PVCC.

What is the Photographers’ Retreat? It is an opportunity for photographers to meet together over an unstructured weekend to talk with people who speak the same language, share work, take photographs and make new friends. How does it differ from a workshop or conference? There are no agendas, lectures or classroom teachers. At this retreat we all get to be students and we can all be teachers. This is an informal gathering and you may attend all or part of the weekend. There is no registration charge.

This year we are trying out a new approach to the Friday night meal. We are having a potluck cookout at Peters Valley. BYOB (bring what you want to drink) and a side, salad or dessert. Andy Schmitt and I will supply hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers, and tend a couple of grills. (There will be a jar for contributions to defray the cost.) You are welcome to bring something to put on the grill as well. We hope this will be a relaxing way to start the weekend.

Saturday morning is generally used for photographing. Saturday afternoon we will have a portfolio sharing area in the Thunder Mountain Studios. Bring work to share if you want to, but it is not required. You are not obligated to attend any of the “events”. Saturday evening we will have a group reservation at the Walpack Inn for those who are interested.

This retreat is hoped to be an opportunity that works for all of you who choose to attend. The intention of this weekend is simply to give photographers a chance to meet, talk and share with other photographers their personal experiences of being a photographer.

Please let Andy Schmitt (aandy42@gmail.com) know if you are planning to attend so that we know how many to expect for the Friday potluck, portfolio sharing and Saturday dinner at the Inn.

Invite your photographer friends along and let’s make this eighth annual event a wonderful opportunity for all of us! I look forward to seeing you at Peters Valley.

Lodging

There are accommodations at PVCC for about 30 people, which are basic and involve shared bathrooms. Some linen is provided but you should bring a pillow, towels, and a warm sleeping bag to keep you comfortable at night. A flashlight is a must as there is minimal lighting around the campus. You will want to bring along layers of clothing for the changing season. The cost for two nights stay with Continental breakfasts is $175.00.
