Japan Portfolio 2016
I was lucky to photograph in Japan for 10 days with my friend, Evvy Goyanes. It was our second trip to Japan together and this time our focus was Kyoto, Takayama, and Kanazawa. Each town contained numerous temples and Shinto shrines and these drew me in every way.
One of the highlights was walking through the snow on the Higashiyama Termachi trail in Takayama. The thirteen temples and five shrines along this trail provided me an opportunity to participate in, what I think of, as photographic meditation. The quiet of a temple precinct on a snowy day seemed to enter the mind as well as the soul. The acts of ritual purification helped to quiet my internal dialogue and as a result photograph more deliberately.
As you look at this portfolio I hope the images transport you to the quiet I found, with only the sound of crunching snow beneath your feet.
